Because they are afraid of being judged, ridiculed, or scorned, some Christians do not dare to speak about their faith. They are the “secret agents” of Christianity. Yet testifying to our faith and preaching the Word need not be a daunting practice.
Too many Christians are afraid of evangelism. Many imagine having to approach strangers and doggedly convince them of gospel principles. That can be daunting. Others look at the big evangelistic campaigns and think it’s impossible for them to do the same, so they give up. Yet other forms of evangelism are available to all Christians, regardless of their spiritual level. There are many lost souls in this world, and each person will prefer a particular approach. Some people will be touched in large gatherings, others by a direct approach in a park, and others will only listen to the message of salvation if it comes from a friend they trust. Each person is different; it is therefore quite normal to use different means to reach sinners.
What is not normal for a Christian is to hide his faith. A child of God should always be ready to share the gospel. Not necessarily by big talk, but by preaching the gospel just by the way they live. We should be so different from the world that we don’t have to say we’re Christians, the world will quickly realize that we have something different. “Then you will be the pure and innocent children of God. You live among people who are crooked and evil, but you must not do anything they can say is wrong. Try to shine as lights among the people of this world” (Philippians 2:15 CEV).
Do your colleagues know that you are a Christian? Does your neighbor know you’re a Christian? Let’s not even talk about your family who should know that you have given your life to God. Like the apostle Paul, everyone around us should know that we are Christians. “The Roman guards and all the others know I am here in jail because I serve Christ” (Philippians 1:13 CEV). Everyone knows what team you support, in your favorite sport, but do you talk as much about Christ? And no need to open your mouth to demonstrate our belonging to Jesus: our actions speak even louder! “If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples” (John 13:35 KJV).
To love our brothers and sisters is to develop friendships with other members of our church. And that is also very important for couples who are dating. You should not isolate yourself when you are in love, on the contrary. It is important to keep in touch with other members of the body of Christ. Jesus also asked us to love our neighbor (Mark 12:31), those who do not know God. By taking the time to talk to the people we meet on our path, by taking the time to remember the name of the person who serves us at our favorite restaurant, and by getting involved in various community programs, we demonstrate the love that Christ has for all mankind. By being kind to others, compassionate, and generous, we attract attention in a positive way. By being trustworthy people, not only are we proud representatives of the Kingdom of God, but people will feel comfortable sharing their needs with us and letting us pray for them. The Holy Spirit will do the rest!
Evangelizing doesn’t have to be intimidating. We just have to let the character of Christ come through us. By constantly working to be in the likeness of God, we will at the same time be a light for those who walk in darkness. And that is an excellent form of evangelization!
